Sex Toy Prices in NZ 2026: What Things Cost and What You Get

Headline findings

  1. The median sex toy costs NZ$60. Across 734 toys listed on 1sttoy on 29 September 2026, the middle half cost between NZ$40 and NZ$83.50.
  2. Two in five toys cost NZ$50 or less. That is 290 of 734 (40%). Another 338 (46%) sit between NZ$50 and NZ$100, and only 26 (4%) cost more than NZ$150.
  3. App control barely moves the price. Toys with app control have the same median as those without, NZ$60. The lowest-priced app-controlled toy is NZ$32.
  4. A published water rating is the spec most tied to price. IPX-rated toys have a median of NZ$77, against NZ$55 for the rest. The share with a rating rises from 12% at NZ$50 or less to 42% above NZ$150.
  5. Silicone is not a premium feature. About half of toys are silicone in every price band: 51% at NZ$50 or less, 50% above NZ$150.
  6. Rechargeable is normal even at the low end. Two in three vibrators priced at NZ$50 or less (67%) are listed as rechargeable.
  7. Vibrating masturbators cost three times manual ones. The medians are NZ$105 and NZ$35. They are one of only two categories with a median above NZ$100, the other being penis pumps (NZ$103).

Sex toy price ranges by category (NZ$)

The table shows the price spread inside each category. The lower quartile is the price a quarter of products sit at or below. The upper quartile is the price three quarters sit at or below.

A product can sit in more than one category, so the counts overlap. Prices are the lowest listed price for each product.

Seven categories have a median of NZ$50 or less: bullet vibrators, butt plugs, realistic dildos, suction-cup dildos, manual masturbators, cock rings and bondage kits. Most vibrator types cluster between NZ$55 and NZ$75 at the median.

What NZ$50 gets you

NZ$50 covers 290 of 734 toys (40%). It buys most of the range in six categories. Manual masturbators lead (78% at NZ$50 or less), then bullet vibrators (77%) and butt plugs (66%).

Realistic dildos (66%), suction-cup dildos (58%) and bondage kits (56%) follow.

At this price, 41% of all toys and 67% of vibrators are listed as rechargeable. Water ratings are rarer: only 12% of toys at NZ$50 or less publish an IPX rating.

Examples from the range, with published specs:

Of 59 vibrators listed as silicone, rated IPX7 or IPX8 and rechargeable, eight cost NZ$50 or less. The lowest-priced is NZ$35. Browse bullet vibrators or manual masturbators for this budget.

What NZ$100 gets you

NZ$100 covers 628 of 734 toys (86%). In every category except vibrating masturbators (48%) and penis pumps (47%), at least 79% of products cost NZ$100 or less.

The NZ$50 to NZ$100 band is where motion features appear. In this band, 18% of toys have thrusting action and 18% use air suction, against 2% and 10% at NZ$50 or less. The share with an IPX rating rises to 30%.

An order of NZ$100 or more ships free. That matters because 84% of toys cost under NZ$100 on their own. Compare thrusting vibrators and rose toys in this band.

What NZ$150 gets you

NZ$150 covers 708 of 734 toys (96%). Of the 80 toys priced between NZ$100 and NZ$150, 41 are vibrators and 33 are male masturbators or penis pumps.

In that band, 30% have thrusting action, 29% use air suction and 40% publish an IPX rating. Only 26 toys cost more than NZ$150, and the highest price in the range is NZ$350.

See vibrating masturbators for the full spread in this band.

Which features cost more

We compared the median price of toys with and without each feature. Features were flagged from product titles and published spec fields only.

Feature (from title or published specs) Toys with it Median price with Median price without Difference
Thrusting action 98 NZ$80 NZ$55 +45%
IPX water rating 178 NZ$77 NZ$55 +40%
Air suction 117 NZ$75 NZ$56 +34%
Rechargeable 384 NZ$65 NZ$55 +18%
Heating 58 NZ$69.50 NZ$59 +18%
Remote control 92 NZ$64 NZ$60 +7%
Silicone 393 NZ$60 NZ$60 0%
App control 56 NZ$60 NZ$60 0%

These are raw medians, not controlled for category. Thrusting and air suction look expensive partly because automatic masturbators use them. Within vibrators only, thrusting adds 21% (NZ$72.50 against NZ$60) and an IPX rating adds 32% (NZ$75 against NZ$57).

App control adds 2% within vibrators (NZ$65 against NZ$64). Vibrators listed as rechargeable have a lower median than the rest (NZ$60 against NZ$65).

Published data is patchy. Only 99 of 809 products (12%) publish a noise figure, and 19% of vibrators do.

Of those figures, 75% claim 50 dB or less, but these are supplier claims, not measurements. A size is published for 522 of 734 toys (71%).

What the other price guides don't tell you

  • They quote US dollar ranges. The widely cited range of US$50 to US$125 is not a New Zealand price. This index gives NZ$ quartiles per category.
  • They assume cheap means battery-powered. In this range, two in three vibrators at NZ$50 or less are listed as rechargeable.
  • They present silicone as something you pay extra for. Here the silicone share is flat across price bands, so read the material line rather than the price tag.
  • They skip delivery. With NZ$10 shipping under NZ$100, a NZ$60 toy costs NZ$70 delivered. Two toys at the median clear the free-shipping threshold.

Buying in New Zealand

1sttoy dispatches from its supplier's warehouse overseas, and tracked delivery to NZ addresses takes 7–12 working days. Shipping is NZ$10, free on orders of NZ$100 or more, and no tax is added at checkout.

Parcels come in plain unbranded packaging, and the outer label shows only your name and delivery address. Opened intimate products can't be returned for change of mind, but faulty items are put right and your rights under NZ consumer law apply.

Methodology

  • Source: the 1sttoy.co.nz catalogue as listed on 29 September 2026, 809 products in total.
  • Universe: 734 toys. We excluded 75 lingerie, costume, lubricant and accessory listings from the overall figures.
  • Price: the lowest listed price in NZ$ for each product. 57 toys have a price range across options.
  • Statistics: median and quartiles use the standard exclusive quartile method. Budget bands are NZ$50 or less, over NZ$50 to NZ$100, over NZ$100 to NZ$150, and over NZ$150.
  • Specs: materials, water ratings, charging, sizes and noise figures are as published by manufacturers and suppliers. We have not tested products.
  • Features: flagged by keyword in titles and spec fields, for example "app", "remote", "thrust" or "IPX" followed by a number.
  • Limits: this is one retailer's catalogue, not a survey of the New Zealand market. It does not include other stores or brand-name ranges we don't list. It shows what is listed, not what people buy, and prices change.

Frequently asked questions

How much does a sex toy cost in New Zealand?

In the 1sttoy range the median toy costs NZ$60, and half of all toys cost between NZ$40 and NZ$83.50. Prices run from NZ$7 to NZ$350, with two in five at NZ$50 or less and 4% above NZ$150. This is one retailer's catalogue, so other stores will differ.

How much is a rose toy in NZ?

The 20 rose toys in the range have a median of NZ$65.50, and half cost between NZ$51.75 and NZ$88.75. The full range is NZ$30 to NZ$116; 70% are listed as rechargeable and 35% publish an IPX rating. See the rose toy guide for picks.

Are cheap sex toys worth it?

In this range, price tells you little about material: about half of toys are silicone at every price band. Two in three vibrators at NZ$50 or less are also listed as rechargeable. What you mostly give up at the low end is water ratings and motion features such as thrusting.

How much should I spend on a first vibrator?

Vibrators in the range have a median of NZ$65, and 34% cost NZ$50 or less. Bullet vibrators are the lowest-cost type at a NZ$35 median, while thrusting vibrators sit at NZ$70. Rechargeable models are common even under NZ$50. The beginner's guide covers choosing a type.

How much does a male masturbator cost in NZ?

Manual masturbators in the range have a median of NZ$35, and 78% cost NZ$50 or less. Vibrating and automatic models have a median of NZ$105, three times as much, and 55% cost NZ$100 or more. Compare both in the male masturbator guide.

Do app-controlled toys cost more?

Not in this range: the 56 toys with app control have a median of NZ$60, the same as toys without it. Within vibrators the gap is NZ$1, and the lowest-priced app-controlled toy is NZ$32. Check each listing for which phones the app supports before you buy.

Is there tax or shipping on top of the listed price?

No tax is added at checkout, so the listed NZ$ price is what you pay for the product. Shipping is NZ$10 on orders under NZ$100 and free from NZ$100. Since 84% of toys cost under NZ$100 on their own, most single-toy orders include the NZ$10 shipping charge.
