What size butt plug should a beginner choose?
Start small: a tapered plug about 2.5 to 3 cm at its widest, with a flared base. Move up only when the current size feels easy. Sets of three graduated sizes are made for this.
Why does a butt plug need a flared base?
The base stops the plug travelling further in. Anything used anally must have a flared base or a firm retrieval loop; never use a toy without one.
Silicone, glass or metal butt plug?
Silicone is soft and forgiving for beginners. Glass and metal are smooth, heavier and can be warmed or cooled, and they are the easiest to clean thoroughly.
